THE Pope Francis called the war in Ukraine an unjustified “absurd massacre” and called on leaders to stop “this heinous war.”
“THE violent attack on Ukraine “Unfortunately, it does not stop,” he said, addressing the tens of thousands of people who had gathered in St. Peter’s Square for the pope’s Sunday message. “It is an absurd massacre, where massacres and atrocities are repeated every day”he said. “There is no excuse for this”.
However, in condemning the “violent attack on Ukraine”, the “absurd massacre” and the “disgusting war”, Pope Francis avoided naming Russia.
“I urge all actors in the international community to show real commitment to ending this heinous war. “Even this week, rockets and bombs hit civilians, the elderly, children, pregnant mothers.”said Pope Francis, referring to indiscriminate Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities.
