“A few days ago, I said that we are living a Third World War in different phases. Now I can say that it is a total, third world war”, Pope Francis emphasized today, with special reference to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its consequences, but also to other conflicts in many regions of the world.
“Anachronistic conflicts are intensifying, extreme, closed, aggressive nationalisms are returning, with new wars that affect the elderly, children and the sick and that cause disasters everywhere,” Francis added.
“After the two World Wars we thought that the world had learned to move, gradually, towards respect for human rights, international law, multiple forms of cooperation. History, however, unfortunately shows signs of regression”, concluded the Argentine pontiff.
