Pope Leo XIV signaled this Saturday that he will continue the vision and reforms of Pope Francis, telling the Catholic cardinals of the world that the late Pontiff has left a “precious legacy” that they must continue.
In his first meeting with all cardinals since his election as a Pontiff on May 8, Leo XIV also asked Senior clerics to renew his commitment to the main reforms of the Church promulgated by the historic Vatican II Council in the 1960s.
The Pope said that Francis, who died on April 21 and had a wide view of opening the church of 1.4 billion Catholics to the modern world, left an “example of complete dedication to service.”

“Let’s take on this precious legacy and continue the journey,” instructed the new Pope to the cardinals.
The Pontiff also asked clerics to “renew our total commitment” to the reforms promulgated by the Council, which included the celebration of Mass in local languages instead of Latin and the search for dialogue with other religions.
He cited Francis’ focus on the “courageous and confident dialogue with the contemporary world in his various components and realities.”
