Pope Leo XIV has already come to Brazil; See places he visited

Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was scheduled for Brazil before the conclave that turned him into Papa Leo XIV, according to information from the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB), but The Pontiff has been in the country before.

The Holy Father visited Brazil a few times, was in São Paulo, in the cities of São José do Rio Preto, Campinas and the Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida, and visited the state capital and the Agostinian College Mendel. See images in the gallery above.

Visits to Brazil

Robert Francis Prevost was in Brazil on different occasions especially during the period in which he acted as superior general of the Agostinians Order, between 2012 and 2013.

According to Friar Márcio Vidal Consolación, Secretary-General of the Order in Latin America, Prevost was also in Brazil when he was still a missionary in Peru. He accompanied young Augustinians who came to study in the Novitiate of the Order in Bragança Paulista, who received religious from all over Latin America.

The now Pope also participated in the Augustinian Youth Day, held in São Paulo in 2013, preparatory event for the World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro.

Robert Francis Prevost’s visit to the Agostinian Mendel College took place in July 2013, during the official program of the World Youth Pre-Journal, held in São Paulo before the main event in Rio de Janeiro, which would host Pope Francis in Brazil. Friar Maurício Manosso Rocha, prior of the Agostinian province of Brazil, celebrated the choice of the American Robert Predost as the new Pope of the Catholic Church .

PREVOST is 69 years old, born in Chicago, United States, and has been a Peruvian citizen since 2015. He is the First Pontiff of the United States and chose the name Leo XIV.

In his first statement to the public in St. Peter’s Square, Leo XIV made a tribute to Pope Francis. Robert Prevost is known as the “two -home pastor” due to his missionary performance in Peru during the 1980s.
