Pope Leo XIV is the most suitable for the current moments of the Catholic Church and the world, according to Brazilian cardinal Dom Raymundo Damasceno.
The clergyman did not participate in the conclave because he exceeded the age limit – which is 80 years – but attended meetings that preceded the vote that elected the new pontiff.
“From the testimonials I heard after the Pope’s election, the stories about him, we really realize that it is that pope, certainly, the most suitable, the most suitable for the current moments that live the church and our world,” Damasceno said in a news conference with other Brazilian cardinals.
The cleric also highlighted the first speech of Pope Leo XIV, which was started with the phrase “May peace be with all.” Thus, he stressed that the pontiff will be a great prosecutor of peace through dialogue.
Still in the first speech, the Pope commented that he wants to share an “unarmed peace and disarmed peace.”
