“May peace be with you. Brothers, expensive sisters, this is the first greeting of the risen Christ, the good shepherd, who gave life through the flock of God. I would also like this greeting, peace, to enter your heart, to reach your families, to all people.
This is the peace of risen Christ, a disarmed peace, a disarming, humble, and persevering peace that comes from God. God who loves us all, unconditionally. We still retain in our ears that fragile, but always brave voice of Pope Francis, who blessed Rome.
The Pope who blessed Rome gave his blessing to the whole world that Easter Day morning. Allow me to continue that same blessing: God wants us well, God loves us all. Evil will not prevail. We are all in the hands of God. So, without fear, united, hand in hand with God and among us, let us follow. We are disciples of Christ. Christ precedes us. The world needs its light. Humanity needs bridges to be reached by God and the world. Help us also, unite with others, to build bridges, with dialogue, with the encounter, uniting us all to be one people, always, in peace. Thank you, Pope Francis.
I would like to thank all the cardinal brothers who have chosen me to be Peter’s successor, and I will walk with you as a united church, always seeking peace, justice, always seeking to work as men and women faithful to Jesus Christ. Without fear, to proclaim the gospel. To be missionaries.
I am a son of St. Augustine, Augustinian, who said, “With you are Christian, and to you Bishop.” In this sense, we can all walk together towards this homeland, to which God has prepared us.
To the church of Rome, a special greeting. We must seek together how to be a missionary church, a church that builds bridges, who dialogues, always open to receive like this square with open arms, to all, all those who need our charity, our presence, dialogue, love.
And if they also allow me a word: [em espanhol] To all those particularly to my dear Diocese of Chiclayo in Peru, where a faithful people accompanied his bishop, shared his faith and gave me so much to follow being a faithful church of Jesus Christ.
To all of you brothers and sisters, from Rome, Italy and the whole world, we want to be a Synodal Church, a walk that always seeks peace, who always seeks charity and always seeks to be close, especially those who suffer.
The day of supplication to Our Lady of Pompeii, our mother Mary always wants to walk with us, be close, help us with her intersection and her love. Now I would like to pray with you, let us pray together for this new mission, throughout the church, for peace in the world. Let’s ask this special grace to Mary, our mother. ”
Then the Pontiff said a prayer with the faithful present in the square, and gave his first blessing as Pope – the Blessing Urbi et Orbi, from Latin, “to the city [de Roma] and to the world, to the whole universe. ”
