The Brazilian cardinals who participated in the conclave that elected Pope Leo XIV granted a press conference and commented on the choice of the new leader of the Catholic Church.
Cardinal Dom Leonardo Steiner said they can thank God for the choice of Leo XIV and stressed that he will not be a “repetition” of another pontiff.
“[Leão XIV] It will be him, it will not be a repetition of another Pope. It will be the one who has so far been, a great missionary, a dedicated man, a man with an extraordinary view of the church and the world, ”he said.
“But it is not repeated, because perhaps some of us even thought we would have to repeat Pope Francis. Pope Francis is unrepeatable, as each of us is unrepeatable,” he added.
