Popverso: “Conversas Entre Amigos” arrives on Star+ this Wednesday (21)

The series “Conversas entre Amigos”, based on a book by Irish writer Sally Rooney, arrives this Wednesday (21) on the streaming platform Star+. The production was launched in May of this year on Hulu and is now available here in Brazil.

In the story, Frances (Alison Oliver) and Bobbi (Sasha Lane), two college students who are also ex-girlfriends, grow close to Melissa (Jemina Kirke) and Nick (Joe Alwyn), a couple in their mid-30s.

What begins as a friendship soon turns into a very peculiar dynamic – a narrative that sparks reflections on love and sentimental bonds, especially for millennials.

Precisely because it shows the pain and delight of being young, the specialized critic considers Sally Rooney as the voice of this generation. In addition to love, the author brings contemporary elements and discussions to the books: DRs happen by email or in messaging apps.

Among the characters’ anxieties are the recent financial crises and climate change, for example.

Published in 2017, “Friends Conversations” is Sally Rooney’s debut novel and the author’s second work to have a TV adaptation.

In 2020, the book “Normal People” also became a series on Hulu, with Daisy Edgar-Jones (“A Far Away From Here”) and Paul Mescal (“The Lost Daughter”).

Sally Rooney’s most recent novel, “Beautiful World, Where Are You”, was published last year and topped Amazon’s UK Top 50.
