Russian authorities may soon introduce new rules for online movie theaters that will limit children’s access to adult content. This was told by the Vedomosti publication, citing sources in departments and companies.

The authorities are considering more effective technological restrictions than those currently in force. In particular, the possibility of accessing adult content using a PIN code is being discussed. Thus, adult viewers will be able to confirm their age when buying films 18+.
Roskomnadzor takes part in the development of amendments to the legislation. A representative of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation (Mintsifry of Russia) confirmed the existence of the project and explained: “It is being worked out with the industry, various options are being considered.”
According to officials, Roskomnadzor has studied the technological restrictions that exist in large online movie theaters to protect children from 18+ content. However, even though some cinemas have “child accounts” and parental control tools, not all platforms protect children from adult content.
