Porsche driver, who received Emergency Aid, says he has a monthly income of R$20,000

Businessman Igor Ferreira Sauceda, 27, stated in a statement to the Civil Police that he earns a monthly income of R$20,000 from the bar he owns in the capital of São Paulo. Sauceda was driving the Porsche that hit and killed a motorcyclist last Monday (29) in the south zone of São Paulo after an alleged traffic dispute.

In addition to his monthly income, the businessman told police that he has an estimated net worth of R$500,000 in real estate. The Porsche he was driving at the time of the accident, which is also worth approximately half a million reais, is not in his name.

In his statement to the Civil Police, Sauceda reported having completed high school and living in his own home. He stated that he had money deposited in bank accounts, but the amount was not disclosed.

According to the federal government’s Transparency Portal, Sauceda received R$5,250 in Emergency Aid between 2020 and 2021. Of this total, only R$150 was returned.

The benefit, which began to be paid by the government in April 2020, was one of the measures adopted to minimize the economic impacts caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Initially, the basic value of the Emergency Aid was R$600. The following year, in a new version of the program, it fell to R$150 per month.

In total, he received 15 installments of the benefit. In 2020, the amount obtained was R$4,200. In 2021, he received R$1,050, but returned R$150. Considering the sum of the unreturned installments, the total is R$5,100.

According to the Emergency Aid rules, the benefit was intended for citizens from families whose monthly income per person did not exceed half the minimum wage (R$522.50, at the time) or whose total family income was up to 3 minimum wages (R$3,135, considering the value at the time).

People with active formal employment were not eligible, as were those who received taxable income above the ceiling of R$28,559.70 in 2018, according to their Income Tax return. There were no specific criteria for assets.

A CNN sought the defense of Igor Ferreira Sauceda, but received no response.

Businessman is in preventive detention

Last Tuesday (30), the Court converted Igor Sauceda’s arrest into preventive detention.

“I note that the criminal conduct of the accused is extremely serious and dangerous, considering that he committed the crime of qualified homicide, having taken the victim’s life due to a traffic dispute that occurred after the victim had damaged his rearview mirror,” wrote Judge Vivian Brenner De Oliveira when accepting the preventive detention of the Porsche driver.

The motorcycle hit by the luxury car was driven by Pedro Kaique Ventura Figueiredo, 21 years old, who was rescued but died in hospital.

In his testimony, Sauceda denied that he had intentionally hit the motorcyclist. He reported that he was driving along Interlagos Avenue when “he was surprised by a motorcyclist, who was driving at high speed, completely out of his mind, and collided with him on the left side, breaking his left rearview mirror” and then fleeing.

The businessman also said that he “continued on the same road, even honking at the motorcyclist, who looked back without signaling that he was going to stop”. “The motorcyclist passed over the curb between a speed bump and the sidewalk and continued on. The suspect continued on his way until, at the next curve, he was startled by the motorcyclist’s movement to the left, which caused him to lose control and hit the motorcycle and the pole”, he added.

He also told officers that he “unsuccessfully tried to avoid the accident by turning the steering wheel of the car to the right.” Sauceda took a breathalyzer test, which came back negative.
