Porsche driver's friend wakes up from a coma, but remains in hospital ICU in SP

A week after the accident involving a Porsche, which caused the death of an app driver in São Paulo, the friend of the driver investigated for the accident woke up from the induced coma he was undergoing in the hospital.

Student Marcus Vinicius Machado Rocha, 22 years old, is friends with businessman Fernando Sastre de Andrade Filho, 24 years old. He was in the passenger seat when the luxury vehicle, valued at R$1 million, collided with the Renault Sandero of app driver Ornaldo da Silva Viana, on Avenida Salim Farah Maluf, in the east zone of São Paulo, in the early hours of Sunday (31 ).

According to the lawyer who accompanies Marcus, the student remains hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Hospital São Luiz Anália, also in the east of the capital. The young man underwent surgery on Sunday (7) due to a “bilateral pleural effusion”, caused by the trauma. Drains were implanted in both lungs.

Rocha had four broken ribs and had to have his spleen (an organ above the abdomen) removed after the accident.

“He is responding well to treatment, has come out of an induced coma and has even started physiotherapy sessions, but he is still unable to talk about what happened”, said the lawyer. The student's family continues to support the young man and, according to the defense, he is expected to be discharged from the ICU in the coming days.

Fernando Sastre de Andrade Filho and Marcus Vinicius Rocha were with their girlfriends at a poker house before the accident.

This Monday (9), the São Paulo Court denied the new arrest request made by the São Paulo Civil Police against businessman Fernando Sastre de Andrade Filho. In the decision, judge Roberto Zanichelli Cintra, from the 1st Jury Court, justifies that despite the fears presented by the Civil Police, which indicated that the suspect could flee, threaten or bribe witnesses, there is no indication that Fernando would take these actions.

Even denying the suspect's request for arrest, the judge said in a document that Fernando's behavior, when he fled the scene with the help of his mother, cannot be ignored and needs to be better investigated.

Thus, the court prohibited Fernando from leaving the country and that he notified the court if he left the city of São Paulo for more than eight days. The decision also determines that the businessman does not approach or speak to the friend who was injured in the accident, the victim's family or witnesses and that he does not return to the poker house.
