The Port of Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, handled 14.4 million tons in October – a record volume for the month, with 34.5% more compared to October 2021 -, accumulating, in the year, 138.2 million tons, an advance of 11.7% in relation to January to October last year.
According to a note from the Santos Port Authority, responsible for the terminal, there is an expectation that, by December, the handled volume of 147 million tons will be exceeded.
Cargo linked to the agricultural sector continued to be the main movement in Santos. The soy complex doubled the movement in October, up 106.8%, to 1.5 million tons; sugar (39.3%, to 2.3 million tons); and corn (130.6%, to 2.5 million tons).
Pulp also recorded a strong performance, with an advance of 69.4%, to 863.7 thousand tons. Landings, on the other hand, grew 8.1% in the month, reaching 3.9 million tons.
The handling of containers, which represents more than 30% of the total in tons, also set new records. In October, 452 thousand TEU (standard measure equivalent to a 20-foot container), an increase of 9.5% compared to October 2021 (413 thousand TEU).
In the accumulated result for the year, 4.2 million TEU, up 5.4% compared to the same period last year (4 million TEU).
The number of moorings in the month rose 10.4% compared to October last year: 434 compared to 393, noting that there were two moorings of ships measuring 347 meters in length, the largest to visit the Port.
In the accumulated result for the year, there were 4,333 dockings (7.3% increase compared to 2021, when there were 4,039).
