Porto Alegre declares emergency situation due to dengue fever

The city of Porto Alegre declared, this Monday (22), a public health emergency in the city due to dengue. The decree was published in an extra edition of the municipality's Official Gazette.

To date, the capital of Rio Grande do Sul already has 2,227 confirmed cases of dengue in 2024 and more than 20 thousand suspected occurrences reported. Two residents of Porto Alegre died from the disease — a woman, aged 31 to 40; and a man, who would be between 71 and 80 years old.

The emergency situation decree authorizes the adoption of administrative measures to contain the disease, such as the acquisition of inputs and materials, adoption and transfer of equipment and goods and the contracting of services necessary to respond to the emergency situation.

“Porto Alegre has made great efforts to reduce the number of cases of the disease, whether by monitoring suspected patients in the emergency room and prioritizing the care of suspected cases, with immediate initiation of hydration measures with serum and laboratory collection,” said the secretary. municipal health department in the city, Fernando Ritter.

Among the actions to combat the transmission of the disease, reports of places with water accumulation will be automatically directed to agencies for assistance, giving priority to regions with a higher concentration of confirmed dengue cases.
