Porto Alegre promotes solidarity cleaning in communities affected by the rains

The city of Porto Alegre received “The Biggest Solidarity Cleaning in Rio Grande do Sul” this Sunday (24). At least two thousand volunteers helped clean the communities of Humaitá and Vila Farrapos, a region located around the Grêmio stadium.

The initiative, promoted by the company Ypê, with support from Instituto Vakinha and Grêmio, mobilized at least two thousand volunteers to help clean houses affected by the recent flood in the region.

“We have always been committed to actions that promote well-being and social dignity. Being together in this operation that will transform dreams into action is an honor for us. This mobilization will be more than a cleanup; we will give back an opportunity for a fresh start to many families”, says Mariana Nunes, Social Responsibility manager at Ypê.

So far, in addition to cleaning, the initiative has collected 100 refrigerators, 220 stoves, 140 washing machines and more than 30 tons of food, clothes and water.

Grêmio, which since the beginning of the flood has collected and donated hundreds of tons of products and set up two community kitchens in the Humaitá neighborhood, also participates in the action.

Alberto Guerra, president of Grêmio, commented: “Grêmio knows its size and its responsibility, and will always be at the side of the residents of these neighborhoods.”
The action benefited countless families, enabling a possible new start with quality of life for the population affected by the flood.
