Porto Alegre promotes welcoming students to schools not affected by the rains

The Municipal Department of Education (Smed) of Porto Alegre established, this Saturday (11), that all school institutions in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul that were not directly affected by the rains, must resume reception activities next Monday (13).

Institutions that have water, energy and support teams must welcome students, offering lunch and offering recreational activities to students. As announced by Porto Alegre City Hall, the main objective of the education department, at the moment, is to promote the welcoming of students and help them in any way they can.

For units that were directly affected by the storms that are ravaging Rio Grande do Sul, the suspension of classes in the municipal network remains until May 17th. The date was extended due to the state of calamity that the capital of Rio Grande do Sul is currently facing.

In total, around 318 school units in Porto Alegre were affected by the storm that hit the city. 26 schools are totally or partially flooded, another 64 have damage such as partial roofing and infiltration.

In addition to lunches and recreational activities, the municipal department intends to promote conversation circles among students.

For now, the academic calendar and pedagogical activities remain suspended in the municipality's units. There will also be no attendance record for students.

Schools turned into shelters

Around four elementary schools in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul were transformed into emergency shelter centers to receive and shelter affected residents of the region:

In the units, in addition to reception and food, a team of psychologists and social workers are also being made available to care for victims.
