The City of Porto Velho decreed today, Thursday (10), emergency due to the flood of the Madeira River. The action came after the rain has intensified since early April. The river is expected to reach its 17 meter flood quota.
According to the decree, all bodies and entities of the public administration of the municipality should act under the coordination of Civil Defense with rapid response to the disaster, humanitarian aid and rehabilitation of the scenario. The action allows forced entry into real estate at risk, the use of private properties in cases of public danger and the convening of volunteers.
The 180 -day document was declared by the government after the abnormal condition caused by the flood, affecting almost 15,000 people in the rural and urban area.
For the mayor of the city, Léo Moraes, “there is a forecast of continuity of intense rains in the coming days, aggravating the situation of families in risky areas.”
The city also authorized the exemption of bidding for the acquisition of goods, inputs, services and works necessary for the activities of response to the State of Emergency.
