Portugal surpassed the tragic milestone of twenty thousand deaths due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus on Wednesday.
In the past 24 hours another 56 patients died due to complications of COVID-19, with the number of victims of the pandemic reaching 20,024 dead from March 2020 to this stage, according to figures released by the General Directorate of Health.
At the same time, 54,693 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed, with the total number of recorded cases reaching 2,745,383, according to its daily epidemiological bulletin.
2,442 patients with COVID-19 are being treated in hospitals, 149 in intensive care units (ICU).
Authorities in the Iberian country are offering commemorative doses of COVID-19 vaccine to all citizens over the age of 35. So far, more than 5 million residents have received a booster dose, while more than 8.79 million have been fully vaccinated, including 301,079 children aged 5 to 11 years.
