The Portuguese General Directorate of Health announced on Sunday that another 80 patients with COVID-19 had to be admitted to hospitals, bringing the total number of people being treated to 1,813, a level that is the highest since March 3, 2021.
In addition, five more patients needed to be admitted to intensive care units (ICUs), bringing the number of people in serious to critical condition to 168, a level that is the highest since 12 August.
In the past 24 hours, 32,271 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed and 33 deaths due to complications of COVID-19 were confirmed.
The death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic has so far reached 19,303 deaths out of a total of 1,884,974 infections in the Iberian state as of March 2020.
According to DGH, 20 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given, with the number of fully vaccinated Portuguese citizens exceeding 8.8 million, or 90% of the population.
