Poseidonia 2022: The great return

Poseidonia 2022 starts today, the leading international shipping exhibition which takes place at the Metropolitan Expo exhibition center and will last until June 10.

The opening ceremony will be greeted by the Prime Minister K. Mitsotakis, the European Commissioner for Transport Adina Valean and the President of the Hellenic Shipowners’ Association Melina Travlou,

This year’s exhibition is the largest in its history so far, managing to cover the entire exhibition space.

Poseidonia 2022 hosts 1,948 companies from 88 countries, a total of 24 National Booths from Europe, North America and Asia, while more than 18,000 international visitors are expected to attend.

The presence of 10 Ministers of Maritime Nations, as well as the Commissioner of Transport, with corresponding national missions, which highlight the political importance of Poseidonia, gives special weight to this year’s Poseidonia.

This year’s Poseidonia includes a program of 68 Conferences and Seminars organized by organizations from 16 countries, which will run in parallel with the Exhibition. Through this program, shipping industry leaders, regulators and government officials from around the world will provide participants with access to useful information and developments.

The main attraction for this year’s event is the more than 30 technology startups, which will present their technological innovations designed to provide digital solutions to various challenges facing the industry.

The main reasons for the global impact of Poseidonia are the power and investment mood of the Greek shipowner community, which controls 21% of the global displacement (dwt). Greece remains the largest ship-owning country in the world, with a fleet of 5,514 ships and represents 59% of the EU-controlled fleet.

The report is estimated to contribute more than 60m euros to the local and national economy. This income comes from hosting thousands of people, kiosk construction, transportation and customs clearance, corporate events, etc.

Poseidonia Exhibitions SA, organizer of the event, this year became the first exhibition in Greece to receive ISO certification which confirms its viability, thanks to a series of initiatives and improvements it has introduced in order to reduce its environmental footprint.

The Poseidonia 2022 Exhibition is under the auspices of the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, the Hellenic Shipowners Association and the Maritime Chamber of Greece, with the support of the Municipality of Piraeus and the Hellenic Committee for Maritime Cooperation.
