Possession marks the beginning of a period of challenges for Moraes in charge of the TSE

A month and a half before the first round of the elections, the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes assumed this week the role of president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). In his inaugural speech, the minister reaffirmed that the court will not admit fake news and hate speech in campaigns and defended the history of the electronic voting system in Brazil.

Moraes will have the challenge of presiding over the TSE in a period of elections marked by a scenario of strong polarization. Another mission is to relax relations between the Judiciary and the Executive after a series of questions about the electoral process presented by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who is a candidate for reelection (see all the candidates for the Presidency here).
