Possible change in abortion rights in the US provokes reactions and doubts

A leaked US Supreme Court document revealed that a majority of the court’s judges are inclined to reverse the ruling allowing pregnant women to undergo an abortion in the country. The news sparked protests in the streets, with protesters for and against the current legislation, in force since 1973.

Around the world, less than 40% of countries grant the same right to their citizens. In 24 nations, abortion is prohibited under any circumstances. In Brazil, the law guarantees the right to terminate a pregnancy when the pregnancy is the result of rape or puts the life of the pregnant woman at risk and in cases of fetal anencephaly.

In this episode of E Tem Mais, Carol Nogueira presents an assessment of the reactions to the possible change in the US Supreme Court’s understanding of the right to abortion. To describe the impacts and implications of the debate on the procedure, the correspondent of the CNN Brazil in New York Heloisa Villela, the director of the Patrícia Galvão Institute, Marisa Sanematsu, and the psychologist Marina Jacobs, a collective health researcher at UFSC.
