The most popular party in Brazil is coming! Carnival will begin this Friday (18th) and promises to rock the whole country until Ash Wednesday (22nd). And among so many destinations, the Rio de Janeiro is one of the most popular to celebrate the date. The city hall expects to move R$ 4.5 billion in its economy during the four days of revelry.
And as it is not just partying that the reveler lives, CNN Travel & Gastronomy separated 12 establishments that stay open late to satisfy that classic late-night hunger in the Marvelous City. They are classics already known by cariocas who became points post-party – at Carnival and always!

Pizzeria Guanabara
The list begins with the best-known late-night classic from the south of Rio de Janeiro: the Guanabara Pizzeria. Located in Leblon since 1964, it is one of the symbols of Rio’s bohemia. The place is famous for being open until late from Tuesday to Sunday and being the meeting point for the last beer of the night (or, of course, to satisfy your hunger with one of its famous pizzas).
Customers will find around 50 flavors – between savory and sweet – which can be purchased in medium, large or giant sizes. For those who go alone, the pizzeria makes batches of the most classic ones that are sold in pieces. However, you have to go to the counter to check availability and also the flavors of the day, which are usually Portuguese, Pepperoni and Marguerita.

There’s no way to talk about the late night in Rio de Janeiro without mentioning the Cervantes Bar and Restaurant. With the title of Carioca Cultural Heritage, the place was founded in 1955 in Copacabana . In the beginning, it was a simple grocery store that made fancy sandwiches. After 10 years, it was sold to two Spaniards who turned it into a restaurant, but maintained the tradition of abundance and quality of what was already offered.
There, the public will find classic dishes from a bar in Rio, with countless options of meat, fish, shrimp and portions of all kinds – highlighting the house stroganoffs during the day. But the sandwiches are what stand out at dawn – and the main protagonist is the pineapple. Sausage, filet mignon, sausage, roast beef, tenderloin, ham are just some of the options that are accompanied by fruit.
The public will find another unit of the house on the bar of Tijuca, but it is only open until 00h on weekends.
