Potentially dangerous asteroid approaches the earth on Wednesday (26)

An asteroid considered “potentially dangerous” by NASA passes close to planet Earth on Wednesday morning (26).

Asteroid 2014 TN17 is between 130 and 290 meters in diameter, and will pass about 5 million kilometers from Earth. Even receiving this classification, the object has no risk of reaching our planet.

NASA classifies as potentially dangerous any celestial body over 140 meters in diameter and approaching 7.5 million kilometers or less to the orbit of the Earth.

Even though the space agency does not predict a collision in this case of 2014 TN17, an asteroid of characteristics similar to it could cause great damage if it crashed into our planet.

Asteroids about 140 meters usually reach the earth every 20,000 years, and create craters about one to two kilometers in diameter. Such an impact could cause deaths in metropolitan areas and states, depending on the place of contact.

The United States Space Agency maps and follows the route of several objects that orbiting near Earth through the Center for Studying Objects near Earth.

Possible impact of asteroid would have global “winter” for years
