In an interview with CNN Rádio, the professor of economic science at Ibmec-RJ, Vivian Almeida, assessed that poverty is multidimensional.
She analyzed a study prepared by CITI in partnership with the University of Oxford that X-rayed the causes of poverty in the world and pointed out that, to solve them, it would take an amount of US$ 1.6 trillion a year.
“As much as poverty is recognized as not having money to survive, it manifests itself in many aspects, such as deprivation of basic sanitation, deprivation of the possibility of studying, not having adequate nutrition conditions, among others”, he explained.
According to the teacher, a person needs conditions that allow them to reach their maximum potential. “Living conditions reflect their development.”
The study also points out that the investment to reverse the situation can have a great return for society, through the so-called “multiplier effects”.
“The idea of the multiplier is to say that, above all, it is worth [investir], a society with better living conditions has a return. A person with access to education will work better, will be more productive, will have better jobs, have higher incomes, will depend less on public policies and will return more to society,” he added.
