TSMC, the world’s largest contract chip manufacturer, said some of its facilities today experienced “short-term power drops” following a power outage across the island. The power outage has raised concerns that the global chip shortage could worsen.

The shortage began late last year and has since affected several industries, from automotive to smartphones and home appliances.
In recent months, the situation has been exacerbated by a fire at a chip factory in Japan and a power outage in Texas, where some chip makers are located.
Officials at three major science parks in Hsinchu, Tainan and Taichung, where TSMC and other semiconductor manufacturers are located, assured Reuters that the disruptions did not affect their operations.
The electricity supply has already been restored.
