The famous Netflix documentary The Tinder scammer Not only has it brought fame and new job opportunities to the protagonist, but it has now become the center of controversy after the powerful Leviev family filed a lawsuit against him for using his last name.
Simon Hayut, real name of the Israeli scammer, decided to change his name due to some problems he had with the law, so he chose to use the name of Simon Leviev, without imagining the consequences that this would bring him.
Not only did the scammer call himself Simon Leviev, but he also defrauded, cheated, swindled, forged, and hurt women, men, and businesses by posing as the son of a billionaire diamond mine owner.
That is why the Israeli diamond tycoon Lev Leviev, better known as “the king of diamonds”, filed a lawsuit against Simon Hayut for usurping his last name.
During an interview for AND! NewsChagit Leviev, heiress to the Leviev family fortune, confessed that the main objective of the lawsuit is for Simon to face justice and get the sentence he deserves.
Simon Hayut is a liar who stole our family’s identity and has tried to exploit our good name to swindle victims out of millions of dollars.
He is not related to the Leviev family and has no affiliation with our company LLD Diamonds.
– Chagit Leviev
The allegations in the lawsuit include defamation, invasion of privacy, and trademark infringement, acts that the Leviev family find despicable and that not only defame them, but also humiliate them.
I am relieved that his true identity and actions have been exposed globally and I hope this puts an end to his unscrupulous actions.
– Chagit Leviev
In their lawsuit, the family claims that Simon made some false claims as the son of Lev Leviev. Furthermore, they claim that he received numerous benefits, including material ones.
The Leviev family states that Simon took a photo of Lev and Ayelet without permission, used Photoshop and added to the family photo:
He presented the ‘fixed’ photo to women and men as proof of being a member of the Leviev family, thus making a misrepresentation that he is part of the family and doing it for personal gain and misleading the public.
For now, Simon has not been charged with any crime related to the documentary. However, according to an Israeli newspaper, he was previously convicted of scamming three Finnish women, for which he served a three-year prison sentence, then was released on bail and disappeared in 2017.
This could be the beginning of several legal problems for Simon. In a statement to the US media, the family’s lawyer, Guy Ophit, said:
It is just the beginning of a series of lawsuits that my firm is currently working on. In the next step, we will file a monetary lawsuit against Hayut and any other affiliates who work with him, including some websites that have joint ventures with Hayut or have offered to buy cameos from him.
In response to the lawsuit, a representative for Simon told AND! News what:
Simon believes the family is just trying to insert themselves into the narrative for publicity after the show’s success.
