PPC participates in the GR-eco Islands initiative, a holistic plan for the green transition of the Greek islands with the aim of achieving energy and climate neutrality and stimulating local economies in the light of sustainable development. According to the relevant announcement, PPC’s participation in this project is in line with the company’s business plan for the implementation of the “Green deal” in electricity generation and the promotion of RES as the new dominant energy production technology and marks its expansion into new businesses. sectors such as electricity and self-generation of energy by consumers.

The event that took place in Halki, on Friday, November 5, marks the beginning of a new green season for the island of Dodecanese and the starting point for the sustainable development of the islands of the whole country.

Halki is becoming a model of green economy, energy autonomy and digital innovations through important actions undertaken by PPC:

– to cover the cost of equipment and transportation of the necessary materials for the construction of a photovoltaic park with a power of 1 MW. The implementation of the first Energy Community with virtual energy offset ensures the reduction of the cost for electricity by the households and the professionals of the island. The annual savings in the electricity bills of the Municipality and the residents through the photovoltaic park and the Virtual Energy Netting will amount to 180,000-250,000 euros, while it is expected to save about 1,800 tons of CO2.

– the installation of 4 public accessible charging points of PPCBlue, which will contribute to the elimination of heat engines and the reduction of the climatic footprint of the transport sector on the island. In addition, with the digital experience PPC Blue (DEI blue) charging becomes an easy and simple process for residents and visitors of the island.

During the event, George Stassis, President and CEO of PPC made the following statement: “PPC participates in the initiative ‘Halki, Green-Smart Island’ covering the cost of equipment for the development of a 1MW photovoltaic park. a solar energy project that aims to meet the needs of all the inhabitants of the island through a Virtual Energy Netting program, in addition, installs four charging systems for electric vehicles that will help reduce the number of vehicles with internal combustion engine and reduce the environmental impact. Our participation in the GR-eco Islands initiative is fully in line with PPC ‘s strategic plan, which focuses on the energy transition, we make significant investments in renewable energy sources as a is the electric drive k and distributed power generation. For PPC, sustainability and actions with social value that have an impact on society and the environment are at the top of our priorities. The energy transition of the small islands is a social issue of paramount importance. The development of the first energy community, using the method of Virtual Energy Netting ensures reductions in electricity bills for all households in Halki, while the facilitation of e-mobility ensures a cleaner environment. This is a bet not only for the island, but for the whole country. ”
