By the end of the summer, 15,000 households and businesses in Peristeri will be connected to ultra-high Internet speeds with the Fiber to the Home (FttH) network developed by PPC, while in less than four years the company will connect more than 3 million homes and businesses across the country. At the same time, the company is preparing a program for photovoltaics on the roofs, while promoting heat pumps.
These results from the positions of PPC’s deputy managing director Alexandros Paterakis and similarly of deputy managing director Giorgos Karakousis in the second Forum of the Economic Post Office.
“The company enters the telecommunications market as a wholesale provider to other telecommunications providers. The network’s breadth allows us to offer high and stable speeds throughout the country, while the biggest beneficiaries will be consumers who will be able to enjoy ultra-high speeds 1 Gbps, at prices less than half of the existing ones”, underlined Mr. Paterakis.
The connections will be made aerial, through the existing PPC network, and their development is much more economical and faster than underground connections, as no digging and special permits are required.
He said that at the end of the year, the replacement of the old electricity consumption meters and the transition to the new “smart” digital electricity meters will begin. Describing the benefits of smart meters, he emphasized that “beyond the obvious fact that an auditor will no longer need to pass by the house to perform a measurement, the measurements will be immediately available to the consumer, so there will be better management of energy consumption, while in case of “In the event of a power cut, the digital meter will inform the customer where the fault is located, i.e. in the network or in the house. Finally, the digital meter will also inform about the consumption related to the needs of electric mobility, facilitating better energy management.”
“Rooftop solar is very high on the agenda for us. It’s a topic we’ve been studying for a long time. Within 2022 we will take the first steps, the first solid steps to build experience internally, to build a new service that will be scaled right. And above all, we want it to be simple,” Mr. Karakousis said at the same conference.
He also emphasized that PPC has taken a big step in informing consumers about heat pumps, underlining that based on the characteristics of the house, it can suggest which heat pump is suitable and how long it will take to pay back the investment .
Asked if PPC is considering a financing tool, he said there is already an offer of 500 euros to the customer: “We are waiting to see the new state subsidy packages that will be announced and we will gradually consider how to strengthen it and make it more systematic.” he added.
“Today, we have the largest network of publicly accessible chargers in Greece with 600 chargers and the plan we have already announced is to grow to 10,000 chargers in the next 5 years. Already, we cover more than 70 areas”, concluded the general manager of Elektrokinis Kyriakos Kofinas .
