The new president of Petrobras, José Mauro Ferreira Coelho, said in his first speech at the head of the state-owned company, this Thursday (14), that he should follow the practice of prices in accordance with the international market.
“We understand that the practice of market prices is a necessary condition for the creation of a competitive business environment, for attracting investments, attracting new economic agents in the sector, expanding the country’s infrastructure and guaranteeing supply”, he highlighted.
THE CNN had already anticipated the intention of the new president in defense of market prices and international parity, as sources told economic analyst Raquel Landim.
Ferreira Coelho also highlighted that the company has social responsibility and will invest in projects that seek to solve social and environmental problems.
“Such a scenario (market pricing) leads to increased competition, with benefits for the Brazilian consumer. However, we cannot forget our social responsibility. Thus, we will invest in socio-environmental projects, programs related to human rights and in the solution of social and environmental problems,” he declared.
The Petrobras Board of Directors elected José Mauro Ferreira Coelho as the new president of Petrobras this Thursday, around noon. The information was confirmed to CNN by two members of the Council.
He was nominated by the government to replace General Joaquim Silva e Luna.
Coelho is former Secretary of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels at the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), a position he held from April 2020 to October 2021.
Before being secretary of the MME, Coelho was for four years director of oil, gas and biofuels at Empresa de Pesquisa Energética (EPE), a state-owned company that provides services to the Ministry in the area of studies and research to help in the planning of the energy sector.
At 3 pm, the new president participated in the inauguration event of the state-owned company’s presidency, in Rio de Janeiro. The Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, and the chairman of the Board of Directors of Petrobras, Márcio Weber, also participated.
