“The preventive detention of the ex-minister and lobbyists on suspicion of corruption reveals all the abuse that has turned Education into this government. What should be a national priority and state policy, became police headlines. Corruption is also a hallmark of this government. In vaccines, in education, in the secret budget,” Tebet said.

Felipe D’Avila, from Novo, said that the Bolsonaro government is experiencing a succession of tragedies. On Twitter, the pre-candidate said that the Ministry of Education has not formulated new policies for the area.

“The news of the preventive detention of former minister Milton Ribeiro, today (22/6), is another chapter in the long succession of tragedies that Bolsonaro has collected in the area of Education. It is a fact that this sector has never been a priority for the current government, which I consider serious and astonishing,” he said.

This Wednesday, Bolsonaro said that if Milton Ribeiro is guilty, he “will pay”.

“Milton’s case, as far as I’m aware, is the question he was having, he would be talking a little too informally with some of his trusted people. And then there was a complaint that he would have sought out the mayor, his people to negotiate, to release funds, this and that. And what happened? We pushed him away. If there’s a prison, it’s the Federal Police. It is a sign that the Federal Police is acting”, said the president in an interview with Rádio Itatiaia.

No Twitter, o pré-candidato do União Popular, Leonardo Péricles, afirmou que Bolsonaro também deveria estar preso.

“The president and his gang should be in jail!”

CNN questioned the other pre-candidates about Milton Ribeiro’s arrest, but has not yet received a response.
