Get pregnant can cause the biological “aging” of a person. The information comes from research carried out by scientists that was published in the scientific journal Cell Metabolism last Friday (22).
Scientists have found that during pregnancy DNA markers used to define biological age change , “aging” the person. However, research has shown that, postpartum, these markers return to showing their previous age.
The study proved that changes occur in the release of stress hormones during pregnancy. In the long term, this affects age markers.
Using blood samples from 119 women at different stages of pregnancy and some of them postpartum, researchers proved that pregnancy can age someone, biologically speaking.
This study was carried out based on the analysis of chemical markers that define age based on physiological stresses that the person has accumulated over time. These situations occur when there are stimuli from situations of danger, threat, challenge or change. In the long term, when they accumulate, this indicator shows how many biological years the person has.
“Based on this observation, pregnancy has been viewed as a natural challenge that can reveal stress-related vulnerabilities relevant to future disease risk,” reports the search.
The good news is that it was discovered that this change is reversed postpartum, when the markers return to indicating the age the person was before pregnancy. However, in some analyses, they noticed that obese people return a few years less than thin people. They also found that those who breastfeed exclusively recover this age more quickly.
