Premiere in the model proposals with the airport N. Kazantzakis

In the so-called Model Proposals, the bill that was recently passed in Parliament is open to the possibility of including the development of Nikos Kazantzakis airport in Heraklion.

The property that will be released after the operation of the new airport in Kastelli, which is under construction, is located in one of the most privileged areas of Heraklion and will be the apple of contention for the big players in the construction industry and real estate.

The maturation of the tender for the utilization of the airport area has been assigned to the project maturation unit of the HRDH, also known as the Project Preparation Facility (PPF), provoking strong reactions as to whether the project is granted to the Fund.

Last October, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Costas Karamanlis, answering a relevant question, clarified that “no property is transferred to the HRDH, no property to the Superfund, which is a creation of SYRIZA. we must not let it become a new Greek. The HRDH will help us in the maturation of the project “.
In fact, he stressed that the private sector could make proposals for the development of the space.

The inclusion of the project in the Standard Proposals, which concerns projects over 200 million euros, is estimated that it can shorten the time of concession for even one year when under normal circumstances the relevant process can take 7 years. The implementation of the pilot proposals concerns proposals submitted by private companies, and focus on the study and construction of either new infrastructure projects, or the expansion and modification of existing projects, which are related to the responsibilities of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport or responsibilities of the Ministry of Environment and Energy.

The nature of the development in “Nikos Kazantzakis” remains to be clarified, however, it is widely expected to provide for complex uses of tourist and recreational exploitation in combination with commercial areas, residential development, but also public green spaces.
