The Minister of Development & Investment Adonis Georgiadis attended today the opening ceremony of the offices of Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Athens. Present at the ceremony were the US Ambassador to Greece, Jeffrey Payat and the General Manager, AWS Europe Public Sector, Cameron Brooks.
In the greeting of o Ad. Georgiadis pointed out:
“I want to thank the US Ambassador to Greece, Mr. Geoffrey Pyatt and especially Amazon Web Services and my friend, Cameron and the whole team here in Athens. My friend Geoffrey, who I will miss very much, must to say, has contributed decisively all this time and there are still many things to do in the future.
Two years ago there was absolutely nothing about the presence of Amazon Web Services. Two years later, new large offices, 45 already employees, many customers and most importantly an amazing prospect for the future.
We are here to help. We are interested in the digital transformation of the country. We are interested in Greece starring in the new world that is being created. To achieve this, the presence of Amazon is very important. And we are here to help make it even bigger. ”
For his part Geoffrey Pyatt underlined:
“I want to thank the Prime Minister, Mr. Mitsotakis, the Minister, Mr. Georgiadis and the entire Government for the excellent cooperation they have developed with all the US technology companies.
AWS is a typical example of how US technology companies with their investments take a leading role in the economic recovery of Greece and its return to growth. But also that Greece, using technology, effectively managed the global pandemic and that – extremely important – is beginning to attract back to Greece Greek scientists who had emigrated abroad during the crisis.
We have seen this power of transformation of these digital tools in the USA during the pandemic and it is especially important for me, in my 5.5 years of service as US Ambassador to Greece, to see how American technology is used every day, for example in the digital vaccination certificate.
“I also listened with great pleasure to Cameron that today is not just the opening day of these new offices in Athens but that he has an extremely ambitious vision of development in collaboration with the Greek Government.”
The General Manager, Europe Public Sector of AWS, Cameron Brooks stated:
“Thank you very much, Mr. Ambassador, thank you, Mr. Georgiadis, for being here with us today. These are the new offices of Amazon Web Services. We are very happy and happy to work with a number of Greek customers in the commercial and public sector, the who benefit from IT and digital transformation.
The progress we see here in Greece is fascinating. We look forward to continuing our development and in cooperation with the Embassy and the Ministry to continue to have opportunities here. ”
