President Israel: We support the Emirati demands for their security

The Israeli president said today that his country supports the UAE’s security demands and seeks to forge stronger regional ties during his first visit to the Gulf country today, at a time when major powers are operating to revive the agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.

The UAE and Bahrain signed in 2020 the so-called “Abraham Accords” to normalize relations with Israel. The two Arab countries share Israel’s concerns about Iran and its allied forces in the region.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog discussed bilateral relations with the de facto leader of the UAE, Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The UAE has twice been hit by drones and rockets fired by Yemen’s Houthis, Iranian-backed rebels.

“We fully support your demands for security and condemn in every way the attacks on your national sovereignty by terrorist organizations. We are here to find ways and means to ensure the security of the people who seek peace in our region,” he said. Herzog, according to his office.

Sheikh Mohammed responded that Israel and the UAE “share a common view on the threats to regional stability and security, in particular (threats) from paramilitary and terrorist forces.”

On the way to the UAE, Herzog’s plane flew over Saudi Arabia, which he described as “a really moving moment.” Israelis and Saudis do not maintain diplomatic ties, but Israel has said it would like to normalize relations with the kingdom. “The Abrahamic Accords must continue and more countries must join us in this effort,” Herzog told Sheikh Mohammed.

The Israeli president also met with the foreign minister and will later meet with members of the UAE Jewish community, the WAM news agency reported.
