The head of state, which recognized bitcoin as a means of payment, called El Salvador “a new land of free people” and invited foreigners to move to their safe country.

Nayib Bukele tweeted a vintage American style poster listing the benefits El Salvador gives its citizens, including bitcoin acceptance and security guarantees. On the poster used a classic US appeal to American colonists who, like the “Promised Land”, welcome future settlers.

Bukele is urging people to move to El Salvador, explaining that there is no “fentanyl crisis”, “no shooting and no looting”, as the state implemented tight security measures in 2022 and 2023. El Salvador ended last year with a 56.8% drop in homicide rates, according to local law enforcement data. On February 14, Bukele announced that the country had crossed the milestone of 300 days without killings.

In February 2022, the president made a promise to ease the naturalization path for migrants by offering to grant Salvadoran citizenship in exchange for bitcoin investments.

In March 2023, the president of the country that made bitcoin an official means of payment announced a new step towards the transformation of El Salvador into the world center of the crypto industry: the abolition of all taxes for technology companies.
