Egypt president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi rejected the idea raised by US President Donald Trump to relocate the Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip for Egypt and Jordan.
Trump said on Monday (27) that he had talked to Sisi about the idea, but Egyptian authorities stressed that the call had not occurred.
Asked about a possible displacement of Palestinians to the country, Sisi highlighted at a news conference on Wednesday (29) that “relocating and moving the Palestinian people from their lands is an injustice in which I cannot participate.”
The Egyptian president noted that it is “important for those who heard that this region has a nation with a clear position on this issue.”
“Historical injustice inflicted on Palestinians, including their displacement and inability to return to their lands, has happened before. Could it happen again? I don’t believe it. I say that if the Egyptian people were asked to accept this, they would get up and say no, ”he said.
What did Trump say about Palestinian displacement?
Previously, Trump had said, “I would like Egypt to accept people, and I would like Jordan to accept people … We’re probably talking about a million people, and we’ll just clean it all.”
“I would like you [Sisi] He accepted some of them, we help them a lot, and I’m sure he can help us, he is a friend of mine, ”he said.
“To be honest, it’s a very difficult part of the world. As they say, it is a difficult neighborhood, but I think we can do that, ”he said.
