President of Peru appoints ambassador to the OAS as new prime minister

The president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, named the country's ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), Gustavo Adrianzén, as the new prime minister this Wednesday (6), one day after the previous prime minister resigned amid accusations of corruption.

Adrianzén took office this Wednesday. He was also Minister of Justice and Human Rights during Ollanta Humala's government and is a specialist in public administration.

Boluarte confirmed the rest of his current cabinet in their roles, including the Minister of Economy, José Arista, and the Minister of Energy and Mines, Romulo Mucho.

Former Prime Minister Alberto Otarola resigned after a local TV station released an audio recording in which he is allegedly heard requesting a CV from a woman with whom he allegedly had a relationship and who was later hired by the Ministry of Defense.

Otarola denied any wrongdoing. The complaint was broadcast on Sunday (3) by the television program Panorama, broadcast on TV Panamericana.

After broadcasting the audio, he stated on X that he did not commit “any illegal act” and attributed the case to “infamy” and “dark interests”.

The woman who allegedly benefited, Yaziré Pinedo, confirmed in an interview with local media outlet Canal N that the voice in the audio was hers and highlighted that she had had a romantic relationship with Otárola, but denied having obtained contracts with the State for this.

On Monday night (4), the Peruvian Public Ministry reported on X that it had opened an investigation against Otárola and two other employees of the Council of Ministers for the alleged irregular hiring of Pinedo.

A CNN awaits the now former prime minister's response to the Public Ministry's announcement.
