President of the United Arab Emirates and Emir of Abu Dhabi dies

The President of the United Arab Emirates has died Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his emir Abu Dhabithe state-run WAM news agency reported.

According to the constitution, Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the emir of Dubai, will serve as president until the federal council convenes within 30 days to elect a new president.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan was born, according to the APE-MPE, in 1948, in 2004 he took over the leadership of the richest emirate, Abu Dhabi, and became head of state. It is expected that his successor as emir of Abu Dhabi will be the half-brother of the Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan.

Mohammed bin Zayed was the de facto leader of the United Arab Emirates after 2014, when Caliph suffered a stroke. Since then he has rarely appeared in public.
