The candidates for the presidency offered solidarity to the vice president of Argentina, Cristina Kirchner, victim of an attack on Thursday (2).
Upon returning to his home in the Recoleta neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Kirchner, who presided over Argentina between 2007 and 2015, had a gun pointed at his head by a Brazilian man – identified by the Argentine Federal Police as Fernando André Sabag Montiel, from 35 years – but the projectile failed after firing.
Montiel was detained, according to police. Videos of people who were close to the crowd around the vice president caught what happened. She even brings her hands to her head.
On social media, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), Ciro Gomes (PDT), Simone Tebet (MDB), Soraya Thronicke (União Brasil), Sofia Manzano (PCB) and Leonardo Péricles (UP) expressed solidarity with the vice president. Argentina.
CNN asked the campaigns of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Pablo Marçal (Pros), Felipe D’Avila (Novo), Vera Lúcia (PSTU) and Eymael (DC), who have not yet commented on the incident, for a position on the attack, and awaits response.
Here’s what the presidential candidates said:
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT)
“All my solidarity with my partner @CFKArgentina, victim of a criminal fascist who doesn’t know how to respect differences and diversity. Cristina is a woman who deserves the respect of every Democrat in the world. Thank God she escaped unharmed.”
“May the author suffer all legal consequences. This violence and political hatred that is being encouraged by some is a threat to democracy in our region. The Democrats of the world will not tolerate any violence in political disagreements.”

“The frustrated attack on Cristina Kirchner almost turns the cloud of hatred that spreads across our continent into a rain of blood. Our solidarity with this warrior woman who will certainly not be intimidated.”
“For us, the lesson remains of where blind radicalism can get, and how hateful polarizations can arm the arms of radical madmen or mad radicals. There is still time to save Brazil from a great tragedy generated by hatred. Peace!”

“All solidarity to Cristina Kirchner, vice president of Argentina who suffered an assassination attempt that night. To stop this fascist escalation, which does not respect laws and democracy, we have to follow the reaction of the Argentine people. On the 07/09th we have to occupy the streets all over Brazil!”
