The Federal Highway Police (PRF) arrested a couple who were transporting seven rifles in a vehicle on the Presidente Dutra Highway, near Resende, in the south of Rio de Janeiro, last Wednesday (27).
The incident took place around 9pm, when federal highway police officers were inspecting suspicious vehicles at km 311 of the highway. Two vehicles that were traveling together caught the attention of the agents and were stopped.
The woman, who was driving one of the cars, stated that she was accompanying the driver of another vehicle. During the approach, the two seemed quite nervous and presented contradictions in their responses to the police.
Federal agents carried out a more detailed search with the help of sniffer dogs, and found the seven 7.62mm caliber rifles, disassembled, in a false bottom inside the car doors. Other parts were also located, three stocks, seven bolts, four breech covers and 13 handguards.
