The Federal Highway Police (PRF) seized 5.1 tons of marijuana this Monday morning (8) after discovering several packages of the drug hidden among a load of corn.
The incident occurred on the border between São Paulo and Paraná, on the Transbrasiliana highway, in Jacarezinho (PR). The truck driver was arrested.
The discovery was made when a PRF team ordered the driver of a truck to stop. During the inspection, the man said he was transporting corn from Maracaju (MS) to the interior of São Paulo. Despite claiming to have accompanied the shipment, the PRF says he was hesitant to provide other formal information about the process.
The police then decided to check the cargo. After removing a small amount of corn from the surface, they found the bags containing packets of marijuana.
The 25-year-old man was arrested for drug trafficking and taken to the Civil Police station in Jacarezinho.
