The states of Rio de Janeiro and Sergipe suffered an adjustment in the price of natural gas in February, both vehicular and piped gas, following a request for a hike by Petrobras.
According to the Regulatory Agency for Energy and Basic Sanitation of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Agenersa), “the readjustment is foreseen in the concession contracts, due to the variation in the cost of natural gas supplied by Petrobras, which rose 15.3%” .
The price change comes in parallel with a legal dispute, in which distributors in five states, including Rio de Janeiro and Sergipe, are fighting a 50% readjustment requested by the state-owned company at the end of December last year.
The company even suggested, initially, a readjustment of up to 200% in prices, with the justification of the high dollar and the price of a barrel of oil. Alagoas, Ceará and São Paulo are also part of this group.
For customers in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro, the increases were 3.59% for the residential segment, 3.77% for the commercial segment, 11.60% for gas stations and 11.77% for industries.
For customers who live in the interior of the state, the adjustment will be 5.61% for residences, 6.75% for commerce, 13.3% for Vehicular Natural Gas (NGV) stations, in addition to 12.79% for industries .
All new prices began to be practiced last Saturday (12).
In Sergipe, where Petrobras is the only natural gas supplier to the state distributor, the average increase was 12.88% in the industrial segment, while in the CNG segment, the percentage was also 11.6%.
For the residential segment, the adjustment was 8.06%, and for the commercial segment it suffered an average adjustment of 10.47%, while compressed natural gas will receive an adjustment of 13.03%.
According to the latest weekly survey by the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP), Rio de Janeiro is among the five states with the lowest average price of CNG in the country, with a cubic meter of fuel costing R$4, 30.
However, with the increase of approximately 11.6%, the price can start to cost almost R$ 5 at gas stations in the state.
In Sergipe, the average price of CNG verified in the last week was R$ 4.66. With the readjustment, the cubic meter could reach R$ 5.40 to the final consumer.
