It is no longer a secret that the prices of 0 km cars have risen in recent years. So much so that the cheapest car in Brazil today costs almost R$ 60 thousand.
With high demand and low supply, in addition to inflationary pressures due to the scarcity of components and raw materials, the level of values charged was high. And, in addition to the atypical situation generated by the pandemic, other factors are causing car prices to rise.
Among them is the greater requirement for mandatory safety equipment and lower levels of pollutant emissions. Models with automatic transmissions are becoming more popular, and manual transmissions are increasingly rare depending on the segment.
One of these categories is that of SUVs. Among the best-selling models, some even offered a mechanical transmission at launch, but the option was withdrawn over time due to lack of demand. In addition, SUVs are among the most sought after vehicles today, even though their values have advanced a lot in recent months.
To get an idea of how much this increase was, the CNN Brasil Business separated the five best-selling SUVs of 2021 and compared the current price with that charged at launch, adjusted for inflation, measured by the IPCA (Extended Consumer Price Index) in the period.
The cheapest versions of each were considered, excluding only the versions aimed at PwD or direct sales. The readjustments can exceed 28% of inflation. Check the list:
