A Catholic priest from Pennsylvania, in the United States, is being accused of stealing US$40,000 (R$207,000) from a parish in Chester County and using part of the amount on mobile games, such as Candy Crush and Pokémon Go.
Lawrence Kozak was arrested April 25 and charged with robbery and related crimes. Authorities say he racked up tens of thousands of dollars in expenses over three years and that some of the money was used for gaming.
These expenses would be related to the games Candy Crush Saga, Cash Frenzy, Mario Kart Tour, Pokémon Go and the “Wizard of Oz” mobile slot machine, according to police.
The archdiocese issued a statement saying Kozak was placed on administrative leave from St. Thomas More following a review of the parish's financial activity in 2022.
“This review resulted in questions being raised regarding certain expenses and levels of spending using parish funds. The Archdiocese then referred the matter to authorities.
“The Archdiocese and parish will continue to cooperate with law enforcement authorities as the criminal matter enters its next phase. Pending the outcome of the criminal case, Father Kozak remains on administrative leave”, they pointed out.
