The Archdiocese of Teresina (PI) removed Father Jardel Moreira dos Reis on Tuesday (20) after receiving complaints of “inappropriate behavior” involving the religious. No details were given about what these behaviors were.
The decision was announced in a note signed by the city’s archbishop, Dom Juarez Marques, who said he was “surprised” by the accusations.
According to the archdiocese, the priest will be removed from all his priestly activities for an indefinite period, until the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Catholic Church in the Vatican issues an opinion on the case.
Among the suspended functions are the celebration of masses and the administration of sacraments.
“Therefore, the Particular Church of Teresina is taking all necessary measures in response to this situation,” says a statement from the Archdiocese of Teresina.
This is not the first time that Father Jardel Moreira has been removed from his duties. In September 2020, he was removed from his activities at the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Aparecida Parish, also in Teresina, following guidelines from the Holy See.
After his dismissal, Jardel Moreira published, this Friday (23), a message on social media saying that “judgment under ignorance is a hypocrisy that feeds itself”.
THE CNN contacted the priest, but received no response.
