A priest pulled a baby's head during a baptism held last Saturday (25) in the Parish of São Sebastião, in the city of São Sebastião do Alto, Serrana Region of Rio.
In the images that went viral on the networks, baby Jhullie was crying in the lap of her mother, Juliane, who was trying to keep her daughter towards the baptismal font.
Then, the priest gives the pull to complete the baptism. After the tug, the mother pushes Jhullie away.
Through social media, Father Ricardo Pinheiro da Silva Schueller asked for forgiveness and said the act was not intentional.
See the note in full:
“Dear brothers! Moved by the spirit of Concord and peace, I want to ask forgiveness from all who felt saddened by my attitude yesterday, 5/25, in the parish of São Sebastião. I recognize my lack of charity towards the family, the child and the guests. At the end of the baptism, the family contacted me in the sacristy. I was able to ask for forgiveness for what happened, even though it was not intentional. Dom Luiz, our bishop, spoke to me and gave his guidance and corrections. I count on everyone's understanding and prayers! Life is a learning experience and at all times God wants to sanctify and purify us. Zeal for the sacraments must be accompanied by the spirit of fraternal and supportive charity. God bless us!”
A CNN He contacted the Diocese of Nova Friburgo and Jhulie's family, but received no response until the publication of this report.
