Prime Minister expects to see general guidelines of the Brexit deal by the end of the week

The new Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of Ireland, Micheál Martin, said on Monday that a trade agreement with the UK is necessary and is in everyone’s best interest, Reuters reported.

Martin further noted that he is hopeful that they can see the broad lines of a deal later this week. “Action will have to be taken on key issues,” Martin added. He stated that they have the feeling that both negotiating teams have advanced.

Market reaction

The comments did not have a major impact on the market. The FTSE 100 is one of the few indices that trade at a loss. The pound is rising strongly against the dollar and it also rises, albeit more moderately, against the euro. The expectation of a Brexit deal is being a key factor.
