Prime Minister Fumio Kishida: Japan is investing in the development of the metaverse and NFT

Japan will begin to encourage the digitalization of the country’s regions in order to speed up the work of government institutions, using, among other things, metaverses and NFTs.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida made the announcement while addressing the National Diet of Japan. The official assured that the government’s initiative should solve many problems related to digitalization in individual prefectures.

The Prime Minister also hinted at the digitization of national identity cards. He also promised that the Cabinet will promote efforts to expand the use of Web3 services using the Metaverse and NFT, encouraging both private companies and municipal organizations.

Kishida said that Japan’s technology investment will extend to the development and production of semiconductors in a joint effort with the United States, as well as work on technology sector reform rules.

The new prime minister took office last fall and immediately pledged to follow the precepts of the previous prime minister Yoshihide Sugoya, who promoted the policy of transparent operation of cryptocurrency companies and advocated taxation of transactions with bitcoins.

In August, Japanese regulators announced that they would consider exempting token issuers from taxation to motivate startups to continue operating domestically.
