The new president of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, has appointed the judge and president of the International Criminal Court, Nawaf Salam, as the country’s prime minister. According to the statement, Aoun “called Judge Nawaf Salam to entrust him with the formation of the government, knowing that he is abroad and is expected to return tomorrow” to the country Tuesday, said the director general of the presidency, Antoine Suqueir. Aoun had previously held consultations with the parties, in which it became clear that the majority of MPs supported Salam’s candidacy.
