Prince Andrew may also lose the title of Duke of York

Prince Andrew of York he still has a lot to lose. After the title of “Royal Highness”, the patronages and military ranks, most of them won in the field, in the Falklands, the third son of Queen Elizabeth he also risks the Duchy of York. This time, however, Buckingham Palace has nothing to do with it.

The proposal was put forward in Parliament by Labor Rachael Maskell, a representative of the York college. Maskell brought a motion to the court after receiving “a lot of emails,” she said, come on residents of the town, who would no longer like to see the duchy associated with Andrea, involved in a sexual abuse affair for which he will go to trial in the United States.

“When Her Majesty, the Queen, takes such clear and decisive action in removing the titles of her son, and when our city makes it clear that it wants this association to end, it is right to urge the Government to make it happen. The parliamentarian explained.

The motion, also supported by five other parliamentarians, cannot be ignored and risks becoming another case destined to be discussed. In addition to the prince’s legal problems, one also thinks in logical terms: if he no longer has the title of Royal Highness, what is the meaning of keeping a duchy? In favor of those who would like to deprive Andrea of his latest title there is the Deprivation Act, law of 1917 which legitimizes the deprivation of titles in the event of high treason.

“It should be possible to amend this Act or introduce a further Legislative Act,” Maskell said, “in order to take this necessary action forward.” And again: “Let the Government recognize that geographic titles can become an affront when an individual falls into disrepute.” The request for the introduction of a legal mechanism applicable when «actions violate the rights or safety of others, and are not in line with values or the ethical, social or economic interests of the place “had a great echo and certainly it will not end here, especially if Andrea were to be condemned.

The Duchy of York, moreover, is very important in the dynamics of the Windsor house, a title usually reserved for the second-born of kings (for example, Queen Elizabeth herself was born Duchess of York, when her father George was not yet heir to the throne, ed). Andrea received it in 1986, on the day of his wedding with Sarah Ferguson: she too still retains the duchy, even though she is no longer a Royal Highness. But if the Duchess continues to be beloved, the ex-husband, by now, has definitely fallen out of favor. Nobody in York wants to hear about him anymore.
